Job Title and Description:
The Deputy Director (DD) will work with and assist the Executive Director in planning and administering programs and projects, compliance with regulations, and property management. This role oversees everything internally, freeing up the Executive Director to focus on external matters. The DD is responsible for supporting the Executive Director in program, project, and daily operations management. The DD will be a leader and coach, with the ability to operate on strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels and to help guide the organization across programmatic and administrative functions.
- Provide oversight of internal operations, including Human Resources, Finance, Legal, Governance, Information Technology and Facilities Management
- Proactively identify internal opportunities and challenges to work with the Executive Director to address them
- Manage key projects and special initiatives that relate to organizational growth
- Manage budgeting, reporting, audits, and compliance – especially around government grants and accounting related to restricted funds
- Provide high-level input to inform decisions the organization makes around both legal and financial risks, such as contracts and insurance policies
- Provide high-level input to inform staffing decisions related to growth, performance, and accountability
- Assist in improving and monitoring the organization’s performance reporting systems (including program and fundraising data)
- Support two senior leaders in overseeing IAJEs promotores, organizing, and youth development work
- Lead staff in long-term program planning, establishing outcomes and clear project plans
- Work with the senior leadership team to develop and evaluate program strategies and goals
- Contribute to grant writing and reporting processes
- Represent IAJE as appropriate with stakeholders, partners, and funders
- Support and sometimes lead fund development efforts
- Provide coaching and training to support staff members in reaching long-term professional goals
- Run Leadership Team meetings
- Work with the Executive Director to coordinate and supervise daily operations
- Assist with bookkeeping and financial oversight, including the development of budgets and expense monitoring.
- Create financial and other reports to submit to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
- Fulfill duties assigned by the Executive Director
- Coordinate all grassroots fundraising campaigns
- Supervise and develop cross-department committees and teams
- Oversee the rotation of meeting facilitation and note-taking
- Develop and implement strategies on organization-wide and regional campaigns and events
- Commitment to social justice, racial justice, and immigrant empowerment
- Shares IAJE’s ideals, strategies, and beliefs in achieving racial justice, liberation, and
- Building self-sustainable communities by immigrant and indigenous Mississippians
- Track record in achieving racial justice, liberation of and for immigrant and indigenous communities, and abolishing ICE
- Strong interpersonal and team‐building skills
- Comfortable and respectful working alongside and following the leadership of immigrant and Indigenous communities
- Excellent ability to track, record, and maintain data
- Experience working with Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, databases and HRIS systems and Quickbooks
- Self starter
- Excellent attention to detail and follow‐through
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and projects
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and regular access to a reliable vehicle
- Available to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend events.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- Experience with one or more of the following areas: public health, campaign strategy, curriculum development, alliance building, media outreach, grassroots fundraising, and policy
- At least four years of experience organizing and working with immigrant communities in Mississippi or South East
- Two years of grant management experience
- Three years of supervisory experience
- Experience working with QuickBooks and overseeing budgets of over one million dollars
- Experience in and/or knowledge of the culture and history of organizing and advocacy in Mississippi or the Southeast.
The position will be located in IAJE’s Jackson office – The Cultural Institute of Immigrant Justice. Our offices are shared with several employees of other organizations. This position requires some evening and weekend work and travel throughout the state.
Full time – 40 hours per week
$70,000 to $90,000 annually
80% employer-paid health and dental insurance
All Federal holidays off, Up to 25 paid leave days per year
