The Working Families Party (WFP) is the progressive party for the multiracial working class, fighting for a nation that works for the many, not the few. We recruit, train, and support transformational candidates up and down the ballot — and run them to win.

Responsibilities

  • Political Organizing : Drive activities that build political power for working people in NYC (and NYS) through growing the strength and influence of the NY Working Families Party
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with core partners and leverage those relationships to execute excellent campaigns that increase our capacity and reach in NYC and build the power of our coalition and our Party.
  • Reach out to groups and movement leaders to build relationships, discuss the WFP and engage new partners
  • Support key WFP partners and members through training, briefings, 1:1s and mobilization
  • Keep deeply informed and up to date on the NYC political landscape and maintain relationships with key NYC electeds, in coordination with other WFP staff
  • Work with other members of the political team to support and engage NYC based electeds in office
  • Endorsements Process: Ensure our endorsements reflect the vision, values, and mission of the WFP, that members have the political grounding and analysis to make sound and powerful political endorsements and that the impact of our endorsements is meaningful and felt by our base, the political class, our candidate and the media
  • Support the endorsement process through candidate engagement, landscape assessment and providing context and analysis to WFP leadership and endorsements to ensure our endorsements are aligned with our values and builds power
  • Support Elections Team in coordinating with NYC based candidates on electoral matters such as petitioning and ballot qualification
  • Work with Communications and Elections Team to launch smart and strong rollouts of WFP endorsements and political priorities
  • Electoral Organizing: Help lead winning WFP electoral efforts that build strong coalitions, grows the capacity of our bases, are understood by allies and the public, and leave the movement and the Party stronger
  • Drive political strategy to build the biggest WFP coalition through aligning endorsements and support for our endorsed priority candidates, focusing in particular around statewide races and priority state legislative races
  • Work with WFP endorsed candidates to ensure they’re running strong campaigns, in coordination with the Elections Team. Help own and drive strong political plans for our priority candidates.
  • Direct WFP resources towards priority candidates based on landscape analysis
  • Work to build membership capacity and political power with close allies
  • Manage goals and a work plan that connect deeply to building the Party’s base of individual and institutional members
  • Communications: Work with communications staff to drive  a clear and compelling narrative around our work and impact through channels that reach our members, allies, the political class, and the public 
  • Work with communications staff on op-eds, letters to the editors, press requests and other media strategies
  • Oversee and ensure excellent and politically appropriate NYC press releases, endorsement announcements, pre-election teasers, and other media outreach
  • Contribute to WFP’s digital presence including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and e-mail by identifying opportunities, developing content and supporting Communications team on pitches and placements
  • Fundraising
  • Support WFP donor meetings, briefings or papers
  • Support fundraising efforts for priority candidates
  • Fundraising goals, as developed

Requirements

  • Must be willing to relocate to NYC.

  • Excellent political intelligence and judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven organizing ability and effectiveness in engaging potential allies and supporters.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Drive, self-motivation, follow through and tenacity to advance our mission and objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively with strong personalities, peers, public officials and allies.
What else you should know
Location: The position is full-time and based in NYS, preferably NYC/Westchester County, with the option to work from home most days during the current health crisis. When safe to travel, some travel around New York state may be required.
Salary: The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000. The final salary will be determined based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. Union Affiliation: WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a non-managerial position, eligible to join the union after six months of employment. WFP’s union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.
