Website MovementLawLab Movement Law Lab

Movement Law Lab seeks a seasoned professional to be our next Operations Manager as we are evolving into our own independent organization. We are currently fiscally sponsored by NEO Philanthropy, Inc. What that means is, in the short term, many operations functions are held by our fiscal sponsor. Our new Operations Manager, however, will have the opportunity to research, recommend, and implement all types of new systems that will allow MLL to become a freestanding nonprofit and will allow our all-remote team to thrive and function optimally.

Movement Law Lab’s purpose is to organize lawyers, decolonize the law, and grow social-movement power — to win a just world. We cultivate new ways of understanding and using the law, in the US and transnationally, to defend human dignity, multi-racial democracy, and ecological harmony. We are rooted in seven core values of adaptability, interdependence, creativity, dignity, radical politics, integrity, and sustainability

You will thrive in the Operations Manager role if you are this kind of person:

  • You find joy in making order out of chaos;
  • You’re a problem-solver with a “figure it out till it’s finished” mentality;
  • You’re technologically curious and savvy, and are committed to your own continual growth;
  • You are detailed-oriented and can see the big picture;
  • You’re a team player who loves building a thriving, healthy social-justice organization;
  • You fully align with MLL’s purpose and shared values.

  • Research, propose, design, and implement all new organizational operations-management systems: Develop a plan for managing the evolution process from being fiscally sponsored to becoming an independent 501(c)(3) organization; research and propose solutions for managing all aspects of our finances, grant management processes, communications, payroll & benefits, contracts, donations, and more.
  • Event Planning & Production: manage MLL’s Program Assistant in dividing up their time up across programs, as they support various online and in-person programming. Occasionally directly support the execution of MLL online or in-person programming. Plan and organize all logistical aspects of MLL staff retreats.

  • A demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and gender justice.
  • No minimum education requirement.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of operations and administrative leadership experience, including managing at least one other team member.
  • Computer Skills: a high degree of comfort with online and computer-based software such as Slack; monday.com (or comparable project-management software); Google Workspace apps; Action Network (or other comparable CRMs); Squarespace, Airtable; Canva; Adobe Acrobat Pro; Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Location & hours: This job can be performed remotely from anywhere in the continental U.S., provided that the employee has consistent access to high-speed internet. Partial reimbursement for co-working space rental and/or internet service costs is available. Must be available 40 hours per week during regular business hours with occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Travel: Must be available to travel by plane up to 5 times a year, up to 5 days per trip, for overnight events and meetings, anywhere in the continental U.S.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: All staff are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one booster shot. Requests for exemptions from the vaccination requirement will be considered on an individual basis, to the extent required by law.

  • Experience using a range of digital tools and integrations between them to ensure an all-remote office workplace is as efficient as possible.
