The Housing Narrative Lab is reshaping the public debate and narrative about housing and homelessness through cutting-edge research, education and training and strategic communications support.
We are looking for a consultant to work as our social media creator to implement our social media strategy and grow digital engagement on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and our Mailchip newsletter. The consultant will be available for two weekly meetings – a team meeting and a check in with the deputy director. The consultant will also need to be available for rapid response content creation and posting based on news or viral moments connected to housing and homelessness.
The consultant will:
- Grow and manage the Lab’s social media presence.
- Create social content including, but not limited to, memes, graphics, animations (GIFs) and videos.
- Support and /or lead training and presentations on social media strategy and tools.
Scope of work/Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the Housing Narrative Lab’s social media presence on LinkedIn (creating 3-5 posts a week), TikTok (1-3 posts a week), Instagram (1-3 posts a week and cross-posting on Facebook) and our monthly newsletter to broaden our reach and connect with new audiences across platforms. This includes cross-posting on Facebook once a week and monitoring BlueSky and Twitter.
- Collaborate with content creators, grassroots organizations and media outlets to maximize the impact of the Lab’s content.
- Monitor social media for trends and content related to housing and homelessness.
- Be knowledgeable of tactics, strategies and analytics tools to recognize trends or rapid response opportunities and trending news stories in order to create digital content that effectively tells our narrative.
- Track, analyze and communicate metrics from digital platforms including social media channels, website traffic and CRM data from action forms and emails.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Proven track record implementing successful digital campaigns in the current social media landscape.
- Proven expertise creating digital strategy, content development and social media account management.
- Deep comfort with shifting and changing priorities, novel approaches and experimentation.
- Highly skilled in visual content creation, especially graphics and design, using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Illustrator) and/or video production and editing software.
- Creative problem-solving and curiosity.
- Capacity to shift from rapid-response projects and deadlines to strategizing and idea generation.
- Expertise integrating narrative and message testing into strategies and content across social media, email and video in order to run cohesive, impactful digital campaigns.
- Expertise using analytics and listening tools to guide best practices and effective digital strategies.
- Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work with a broad set of stakeholders.
- Experience with email marketing.
- Demonstrated commitment to social, economic and racial justice issues.
- And loads of creativity, vim and passion for the work.
Rate: $45,000/11 months
