URGE is looking for a full-time Alabama State Coordinator—a committed individual who is passionate about social justice and is energized by our work of building a movement for Reproductive Justice that centers the leadership of young people and builds power through organizing, shifting culture, and advocating for meaningful policy change. Position Overview

URGE’s Integrated Voter Engagement (IVE) program identifies, organizes, and mobilizes young people who care about issues of sexual health, reproductive justice, racial justice, LGBTQ liberation, and gender equity. The IVE team provides programming, engagement and leadership opportunities that enable young people to build visibility and political power to impact policy and culture change across the state and nationally. The IVE team manages our Community Action Networks (CANs,) which serve as hyper- local spaces for individuals, organizations, and local leaders to come together in person and virtually for community building, organizing, and action taking. Through events, trainings, and grants, CAN members foster meaningful connections within their immediate and surrounding communities.

The Alabama State Coordinator will work in collaboration with the rest of our IVE team to support cultivate and expand our civic participation and organizing initiatives in Alabama. This position will report to the Voter Engagement Director.  Responsibilities include:

Integrated Voter Engagement  

• Implement year-round education and mobilization campaigns in Alabama.
• Identify new community partners and strengthen URGE relationships to expand the reach of IVE Department across the state.
• Support the development of field tools and trainings for staff and membership.
• Effectively manage voter engagement canvassers and campaigns, in compliance with 501c3 restrictions.
• Manage and maintain up-to-date records of campaign metrics and growing partnership databases.
• Manage and implement other IVE projects as assigned.

Community Action Network   

• Work with URGE staff to plan, develop, and implement training for URGE’s Community Action Network (CAN) program.
• Identify, build, and maintain relationships with a diverse base of young leaders and activists for Community Action Networks in respective state to run local, state, and national reproductive justice campaigns.
• Manage CAN grant process and grantees in state.

Contribute to URGE team and mission 

• Represent URGE in partnership, coalition, and movement spaces as needed.
• Act as support in partnership with URGE staff in facilitating IVE and cross-departmental core programming.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience with social justice organizing OR at least 1-year specific experience with electoral field campaigns and door-to-door, phone, and digital canvassing or other relevant work.
• Strong alignment with URGE’s mission and values, including commitment to reproductive and gender justice, abortion access for all, queer and trans liberation, dismantling white supremacy, and building young people’s political power.
• Experience and expertise organizing and working with people of color and LGBTGIA+ individuals and communities.
• Flexible, adaptable to change, meeting obstacles and opportunities with a problem-solving mindset
• Genuinely enjoys working and learning with colleagues and in community; welcomes direction and feedback, and shares skills and knowledgewith others
• Strong project management skills with the ability to initiate and follow-through with independent project implementationwhile tracking multiple details and deliverables
• Growth mindset with an ongoing commitment to continuously learning and modeling our organizational culture, co-creating a work environment that is just, equitable, and inclusive to all, including Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, LGBTQIA+ people, women, and people with disabilities.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, team environment as well as work autonomously. Prepared to work remotely with long-distance supervisory relationship.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Proficiency with a range of digital tools: social media platforms (including Tik Tok, Instagram), Microsoft Office, and Google Drive. Experience with VAN/EveryAction a plus.
• Willingness to travel 15% of the time Candidates must be able to drive, have personal transportation and the ability to travel to organizing sites across the state. Candidates must also be willing to fly to programming sites outside of the state. Candidates must be prepared to work from a home office with equipment provided by URGE.

Travel

In-state travel is required at 15%. Candidates must be able to drive, have personal transportation and the ability to travel to organizing sites across the state. In addition to in-state travel, there will be occasional out of state travel to Washington, DC and other program sites. Candidates must be prepared to work from a home office with equipment provided by URGE.

Location, Compensation & Benefits

This is a FTE remote position based in Alabama. The Alabama State Coordinator must reside in Alabama.  In-region travel will be required roughly 15% per month with additional travel as needed related to major campaigns/projects.

The annual salary for this position is  $65K.

Additionally, FTE employees receive a benefit package, including the following items and more: 100% employer-paid health coverage for employee; dental and vision insurance; life insurance; Flexible Spending Accounts for Health and Dependent Care; 401k Plan; and generous PTO that includes Flexible Fridays, sick leave, vacation leave, holidays plus two-weeks of organizational-wide office closure per year, twelve-weeks parental leave, and a six-week paid sabbatical after five years of employment.

To further support wellness, URGE contributes $4,000 per year to a Health Fund for each FTE.

All staff receive a monthly stipend of $125 for home office support. Staff who use personal vehicles for organizational purposes will be reimbursed at a rate of [currently IRS has as 72.5 cents per mile]

Staff at URGE are members of Nonprofit Professional Employees Union excluding, however, management and certain other categories. This position is in the bargaining unit.
